Madden and MNF
Mark has weighed into the John Madden on Monday Night Football . Tthe reason I don’t want Madden on MNF is because he is a bumbling senile old man with nothing to add to the game. MNF needs to find someone who knows football and can communicate that on the air. I think Dan Fouts did a decent job a trying to explain the football game despite Dennis Miller’s incoherant ramblings. I actually thought Bommer Esiason was decent too. Madden just might cause me stop watching MNF en toto. I am with Ben on this one. MNF should quit looking for big names and go for talent. Oh, while I am on the subject please get Eric Dickerson the heck of the TV - he could run like the wind but he couldn’t get asentence out to save his life.

U2 and Faith I just

U2 and Faith
I just came across this interesting article on U2 and Christianity in NRO. It is a thought provoking quick take on the bands connection to their faith and how it is presented. Worth reading.
On a personal note, I had to deal with just this issue when I was younger. No I was not a Christian pop star but I wanted to go to a U2 concert. My parents, as some of you might have guessed, were rather strict. My dad did not approve of secular rock music - in fact he was deeply suspicious of Christians rock music. I really wanted to go, however, so I researched some Christian media guides and found some good articles on U2’s faith and the issues they deal with in their music and presented the material to my Dad. No luck - I couldn’t go to the concert - although I am not sure it wasn’t the cost rather than the content. I missed out on good seats at a U2 concert and I have never been to see them since. Oh well, C’est La Vie.

Classic G-File Jonah’s latest Goldberg

Classic G-File
Jonah’s latest Goldberg File on National Review Online is classic. You can read it yourself but this is why I love Goldberg:
Think of it this way: The Congress and Senate pass a law saying that U.S. Marines can kick in your door, eat your food, get all grabby with your wife, hog the remote, and sleep on your couch indefinitely ? without ever offering compensation or putting the toilet seat back down. Would that be constitutional until the Supreme Court says otherwise? Of course not. The fact that it’s comparatively more difficult to determine whether or not bans on issue ads are unconstitutional doesn’t lessen the obligation to make that determination; it just makes it more difficult. If we wanted a system which depended on the vagaries of insipidity and reflexive asininity we’d have made Alec Baldwin Czar-for-Life.
But that’s not what I want to talk about either.
Nobody can ramble through such hilarious side comments and still make a serious point quite like Jonah.
