I need a win tonight, Kings. Don’t make me go through a game seven!

I have been a bit deliquent in my blog watching so here is a quick survey:

Ben Domenech tackles Ari Flescher, Daniel Pearl, teen sex and smoking and plans to give away free stuff.
Louder Fenn wrestles with hunam nature and human rights; posts El Mosquito; and discusses sin and homosexuality.
Mark Byron is preparing to move to sunny Florida (have a nice trip -ed.) but finds time to post some palestinian funnies and discuss the good samaratin.
Junk Yard Blog: outlines the India battle plan; reveals his weakness in French; discusses war crimes and action figures, Iraq action plans, and conservative chances in lefty states.
The Beauty of Gray ponders Afghanistan and nation building; and the end of extremist Islam.
Live From The WTC disucsses atheists in foxholes, the increasing danger in India, Japan’s debt rating, Krugman watch, and teen sex.
Hokie Pundit is off to Brussels wearing a USA soccer jersey.
Unqualified Offereings continues to work on his cool new site redesign while posting on subjects like: is Afghanistan nearing quagmire stage? Exploring the invade Iraq rationale and discusses the uses of Netscape 4.

Go now and read.

Robert Ziegler tackles the issue of American’s and conservative’s aversion to Soccer over at National Review Online.

I myself love soccer and have played it for a number of years. I currently play on both an indoor and outdoor team. I enjoy watching soccer live and on TV. The one drawback is MLS lacks, for me, the rivalry and history of say the NFL. I watch it when I can but I am not a devoted TV watcher.

The World Cup, however, is a different story. I love watching it. The soccer is wrold class, the excitement and competition is unmatched, and the fans go crazy. The skill, agility, speed, and toughness of the players, already amazing at the MLS level, is awesome at the World Cup. It really is the beautiful game.

The only problem ifor me are the match times )they are early in the morning US time) and my lack of cable TV. The Columbus Crew MLS organization is going to be showing matches at the stadium with free refreshments, however, so I think I will take advatage of that - free food and crazy soccer fans!

Cleveland’s Bad Accounting

Filed Under Politics | Comments Off

Here is a shocker: Cleveland bookkeeping a mess! Cleveland, that city known for its efficiency and integrity? How can this be?

All joking aside, If I lived there I would be ticked off. The state auditors report paints a rather damning picture of city finances. One particularly egregious example:

One of the audit’s major findings was that Cleveland’s lax investing practices resulted in poor returns.
If the city had followed the lead of Cuyahoga and Geauga counties, it would have reaped an extra $1.3 million last year. Those governments earned an average of 5.48 percent, compared with Cleveland’s 5.26 percent.
Petro said the city was not aggressive in seeking high yields, and he marveled that the city keeps some money in accounts that bear no interest.
“That’s crazy,” he said.

I agree. If the only thing newly elected Mayor Jane Campbell can do is get a handle on this, then she will have succeeded.
