It must be a sad day for Robyn over at Ain’t To Proud To Blog as her beloved Sooners lose again to in state rival Oklahoma State! The Cowboys got hot practically from the start and the Sooners just couldn’t seem to stop em; the game wasn’t as close as the 38-28 score made it seem. That is two years in a row if you are scoring at home.

Me thinks, Robyn got caught talking a little too much trash with Mister Mittens (another Michigan fan).

What goes around comes around!

My wife was not happy to be watching college football on a Friday night. “Why are we watching this game? Why is it so exciting?” she aksed. I said: “There is less than a minute to go I wan’t to see if it gets interesting.” Boy did it!

It is beautiful comic justice that LSU got to feel the sting of a last minute desperation comeback. You would think that at somepoint teams would quite playing the prevent defense. The Razorbacks are headed to Atlanta to face Georgia.

TheRagpickersDream.jpgComplete waste of a day at work (except I organized my desk a little). I have been listening to music, however, and so wanted to offer you one more lyric post.

This one is dedicated to the Blog Daddy Glen Reynolds aka Instapundit.

Daddy’s Gone to Knoxville
Oh, you’re gonna miss your daddy when he’s gone
When he’s gone
Yeah, you’re gonna miss your daddy when he’s gone
When he’s gone
Daddy’s gone down that Gallatin road
The hen never laid and the corn never growed
Oh, you’re gonna miss your daddy when he’s gone

Oh, I’d rather have a dollar than a dime
Than a dime
Yeah, I’d rather have a dollar than a dime
Than a dime
Daddy’s gone down that Crossville track
If he can’t make a dollar then he ain’t comin’ back
Oh, I’d rather have a dollar than a dime

Oh, you better love your daddy while you can
While you can
Yeah, you better love your daddy while you can
While you can
Daddy’s gone south on the Natchez trace
If the can’t show the money then he don’t show his face
Oh, you’d better love your daddy while you can

Oh, your daddy’s gone to Knoxville now
Knoxville now
Yeah, your daddy’s gone to Knoxville now
Knoxville now
Daddy’s gone down that Knoxville road
The dog never barked and the cock never crowed
Oh, your daddy’s gone to Knoxville now

Youretheone.jpgI have always been a fan of Paul Simon but never really listened to him that much until I met my wife. She is a huge fan and really got me hooked. This is not his best album by any stretch but it has its moments. It is understated and relaxed yet humorous and deep. I especially like the title track and Old. Here are the lyrics to Old:

Old
The first time I heard “Peggy Sue”
I was 12 years old
Russians up in rocket ships
and the war was cold
now many wars have come and gone
Genocide still goes on
Buddy Holly still goes on
but his catalog was sold

First time I smoked
guess what - paranoid
First time I heard “Satisfaction”
I was young and unemployed
Down the decades every year
Summer leaves and my birthday’s here
And all my friends stand up and cheer
And say man you’re old
Getting old
Old
Getting old

We celebrate the birth of Jesus on Christmas day
And Buddha found Nirvana along the Lotus Way
About 1,500 years ago the messenger Mohammed spoke
And his wisdom like a river flowed
Through hills of gold
Wisdom is old
The Koran is old
The Bible’s
Greatest story ever told

Disagreements?
Work ‘em out

The human race walked the Earth for 2.7 million
And we estimate the universe about 13-14 billion
When all these numbers tumble into your imagination
Consider that the Lord was there before creation
God is old
We’re not old
God is old
He made the mold

Take your clothes off
Adam and Eve

The Day After

Filed Under Miscellany | Comments Off

Well Kids, I am back at work the day after Thanksgiving. What? You say, I thought you worked for the state! Well I do. But I am a dedicated employee and so here I am at work. Should of took the day off. No one is here and it is unsettlingly quiet.

Good day yesterday. The smoked turkey was delicious as was everything else. Did well on my pigskin prognostications going 2-0; perhaps I can pick up some ground on Mr. Byron. I also picked up 15 fantasy points from the Partriots stellar performance against the hapless Lions. I will need all the points I can get as my opponent has Priest Holmes and Tony Gonzalez!

Well, I hope everyone is enjoying their day wherever they may be. If you are at home, enjoy the family and friends (or just the time off); if you are at work I can sympathise.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving Holiday. We are off to some friend’s house for smoked turkey!

We are bringing the wine and my famous baked brie. I scrap off the white stuff on the top of the brie, cover it with carmelized brown sugar and toasted almonds and then wrap with puff pastry. It is awesome.

If anyone cares I think the Patriots and the Cowboys win today. How American!

For your holiday reading pleasure I offer you the following links:

Unqualified Offerings is again attacking the No Fly Zones. No, I don’t mean that literaly.

Jim uses a post over at Objectionable Content to rant that we are all being duped into buying the fradulent No Fly Zone concept. Both Jims argue that the zones are not strategically valuable but insteead prevent any real chance of resolution.

Despite my respect for Unqualified Offerings (hey I liked it before it was the “cool” anti-war blog!) this is a bit over the edge. I will admit that the zones are not the perfect tool of statecraft of millitary strategy some in the administration may pretend. That said, they have served one important purpose: they annouce we anin’t leaving until we are done!

Now the Jims don’t like this because they want to leave now. But the fact of the matter is that if we had left and not imposed the no fly zones we would be in a weaker position to insist that Iraq comply with the cease-fire agreements. Thus the No Fly Zones are both a buffer and constratint on Iraqi action and a token that says we intend to stay until this is resolved.

What both Jims ignore is that there has never been any indication that Saddam Hussien was willing to do what it takes to resolve the situation. He has shown an amazing knack for bluster and prevarication but absolutely no sign of rejecting his reckless and dangerous goal of regional dominance and internal control using any means neccesary.

To berate the No Fly Zones as preventing peace when they could be gone if Saddam chooses to act is a bit of a stretch.

Also in NRO this morning - specifically a link in The Corner - Jonah shrugs off this critique of National Review by The Hillsdale Collegian. Now perhaps this is just because I have family in Hillsdale, but I think they have a point - even if they make it poorly. NRODT does have a tendency to get stale but the Collegian fails to explain why. They also confuse NRO with NRODT, using the term National Review for both.

I think that NRODT is being impacted by NRO in a negative way. (I won’t bore everyone with the rest of this. If you want “more” click below.)

Continuing his meteoric rise from humble blogger to “National Review Online correspondent” Bryan Preston reviews the movie Treasure Planet today at NRO.

What is his verdict? Entertainment for the whole family:

Treasure Planet is classic Disney, combining grand adventure with a lush fantasy and a smidgen of romance. It’s also classic Pixar, and may be the most beautiful combination of traditional cell animation and 3D animation to date.
