A great John Prine tune:

Max enjoys the boatMonday morning we packed the station wagon and headed to the great state of Michigan to spend some time with my parents - Dad and step mom.  It is a festive week as today is my lovely wife’s birthday, Friday is my parents anniversary; Sunday is my birthday, and of course Monday is Memorial Day.

The weather here is gorgeous and we have had a great time already.  Once my dad got it running we took the pontoon boat out on the lake.  It was windy and cool but beautiful.  While he was getting the boat ready I took Ella for a paddle boat ride and dipped her in the water a couple of times.  Each time she was surprised by just how cold the water was.  She is attracted to the idea of swimming but the reality of the cold is just too much.  But the idea of swiming makes summer real and an exciting prospect.

Each time I return to Michigan and to the lakes I contemplate living here.  But outside of the financial challenges - lake houses aren’t cheap obviously - there is the matter of leaving a town where we have a church home, friends, and stability for our children.  Hard to give that up.  Which is the very reason we decided not to move to Texas last year.

Still, the state of Michigan calls to me every time I return.  I envision life on the lake and I can see myself staying here a long time.  I guess I have a goal for retirement . . .

If you ever wanted to know what I sound like on the radio here is your chance.  Below is an interview I did this morning with WRVA Richmond, Virginia with Jimmy Barrett.

I have joined the world of Blackberry.  I got one today.  I had a Razor for the last few years but the battery was running down and it was going to cost me $40 to replace it.  They had some good deals plus I had my new every two deal so I took the plunge.

I have been wanting to have something where I could access my email, sync my schedule, etc. for awhile but didn’t want to spend the money.  I was intrigued by the IPhone but it was to pricey. The BlackBerry is realiable and very usable so I went with it.  Email is a critical part of my job now and it is handy to have access to it wherever I am.

So far I have had a few technical glitches but I am getting the hang of it.  Maybe if I could blog with it I would post more often . . .

For those of you interested in Holtsberry family photos, I have updated some recent photos to my flickr page.  The image you seen here is one example.

Ella had read a book where a young girl sleeps out in her yard in a tent and wanted to try it herself.  So I got the tent set up in the backyard and we spent the night in it.  In the morning Lisa came out and snapped a picture.

Ella slept remarkably well.  I was a bit cold and distracted by all the noises.  But it was fun sharing it with her.

I hope to do some real camping this summer.  Particularly when it is warm.

I will confess that despite my love of golf I am less interested in watching if Tiger isn’t playing.  He just brings an edge or sense of excitement to the game.  I guess I am a bandwagon fan on this one.  When he is in the field I root for him.  I enjoy watching him dominate.

That it isn’t to say that I can’t enjoy golf without Tiger Woods, but I am less likely to watch without him in the field.

Not sure how much of the Players Championship I will watch this weekend, but I am disappointed that Tiger isn’t playing.  I guess I can cheer for Sergio to implode if he hasn’t already . . .

I have decided to make a change.  After having used Word Press for work and in helping with my church’s website I decided to switch over for my personal blog.  I find WP easier to use and more flexible and dynamic.  Sorry MT, that is just the way it is.

I also wanted to make a fresh break from this particular blog and URL.  I just felt like there was too much baggage and debris here and I need a fresh start somewhere else.

So I have created a new blog which you can find here.  I hope to blog there more regularly than I have here.  Most likely on the normal subjects: sports, culture, family, etc.

I plan to leave everything her for archival sake.  Ahh, the memories . . .

So click on over the new place and check it out.  Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

This is my new personal blog.  I have decided to stop using Movable Type and start using WordPress.  I still haven’t arranged everything but this is the start. So if you stumble upon this site I figured I needed an explanation.
